Chemicals found in Flat in Widnes
BOMB disposal experts were called after police discovered
containers of chemicals similar to those used by the London July 7
bombers. Police found a quantity of liquid acetone peroxide
after executing a warrant at a flat in Latimer Close, Widnes.
Two officers and a member of the public fell ill, they were checked
by ambulance crew and there were no lasting effects.
Neighbouring properties were evacuated and some residents were taken to the Stobart Stadium. Latimer Close and a section of Derby Road were cordoned off while emergency services identified the chemicals.
Residents returned to their homes in the evening after the
chemicals were assessed as posing no harm to the public.
There is no connection to terrorism.
