NHS Introduces Traffic Lights for Emergency Services
As NHS hospitals across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington gear themselves up for what could be their busiest winter ever, the latest figures show that one out of every four people who go to A&E don’t need to be there.
Senior doctors and nurses are appealing to people in Cheshire,
Halton and Warrington to remember that A&E and 999
services are for life-threatening and emergency conditions, in
order to help them to provide fast treatment for people who have
had heart attacks, strokes and serious accidents. And are backing
the Choose Well “traffic-light” system to make people think about
how they use emergency NHS services.
NHS teams across the region are supporting the Choose Well communications campaign, which aims to make people aware of the range of NHS services available on their door-step, to help with minor illnesses and injuries that don’t need a visit to A&E.
Choose Well uses a traffic-light system to direct people to local services that can help with common complaints such as back ache and minor sports injuries, sore throats, coughs, colds and flu, and stomach upsets.
Details of local services can be found by calling NHS
Direct on 0845 46 47.
