Fire destroys landmark club
Fire at Widnes Recreation Club, Liverpool Road, Widnes
At 23.40 hours on 2nd May 2012 two appliances from Cheshire
Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene of a fire at
the Widnes Recreation Club, Liverpool Road, Widnes. (formerley the
ICI Recreation Club)
A two storey property that had been vacant for some time. The fire
had spread throughout the building, involving the ground
floor, first floor and roof speace.
Relief crews from Ellesmere Port and Macclesfield attended the scene.
The iconic club was the home over the years to many local rugby, football and cricket teams and various other Local Clubs and Socierties.
Due to the damage the club has had to be demolished.
